"The Cavendish Players, the special needs drama group, set up in Lingfield in 1997, presented their own unique and hilarious version of Dad’s Army, Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Mr Hitler? at the Lingfield and Dormansland Community Centre .

The Cavendish Players were founded by Gerry Loney who was manager of the Lingfield based Monica Cantwell Trust- now Cavendish House Trust - which was launched in memory of local girl Monica who was murdered in New Zealand in 1989.

And Gerry and the group’s helpers and friends aided and abetted the Players in a four scene offering which charted the recruitment of the local defence volunteers as war erupted, the parading of the recruits and lectures on self defence and how to take out a tank.

A retiring collection at the end of the performance raised £160.40pm for the Syrian refugee crisis.

Cavendish House in Lingfield provides residential care for adults with special needs. Five adults call it home.

Cavendish Players meet every Tuesday at the Community Centre and have over 20 members from Lingfield, Edenbridge, Caterham and East Grinstead.
